Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe
When I first joined the real estate industry, I found myself working with clients who weren’t the right fit for me simply because I needed to support my new business. I stifled my intuition and constantly felt obligated to accept every opportunity that came my way, even if it didn’t feel right.
During my first two years in business, I often found myself drained of time, energy, and motivation. I was attracting clients, but it came with a price. I constantly found myself forfeiting large percentages of my commissions, putting unnecessary time and energy into things that my clients were unwilling to do, and worst of all, I found myself being frequently undervalued and underappreciated.
Although I knew that many of these challenges were not my responsibility, I somehow felt obligated to meet them. I found myself in an unhealthy, self-sabotaging cycle yet again. I had imagined that by becoming my own boss, I would not have to face these types of situations anymore. I thought that changing my title would somehow grant me the worth I sought, but I was wrong. I realized that it was high time to be honest with myself and to admit that there was one obvious common denominator in all of these experiences — me. As much as I wanted to ignore this fact, I realized that the reason I kept getting the short end of the stick was because I kept reaching for it.
Growing up, I often watched my own mother sacrifice so much of herself to please others. She always put everyone else’s needs before her own. People would often say, “You have the sweetest mother. We just love her!” Naturally, I followed her example and grew up valuing the idea of putting others before myself, which ultimately became second nature to me. It wasn’t until I turned thirty that I finally had the courage to make a change.
One day, during a conversation with a dear friend and colleague, I asked her how she approached pricing with her clients. She confidently responded, “I simply tell them what I charge and what I will and will not do.” She believed and understood her value, and thus, her clients did too. “Your vibe attracts your tribe, Kadija.” This was a revelation to me. I realized that I was working for less than I deserved simply because I wanted to please my clients and because I wanted to avoid conflict and discomfort.
Ultimately, I realized I was devaluing myself and my business. I was exhausted, and I was tired of putting my heart and soul into something and seeing little return. Thus, I started working with a life coach. We discussed people-pleasing, and I reexamined who I wanted my clients to be. I shifted my business model and got clear on who my ideal client was. I practiced daily affirmations to attract these people. I read books about manifestation and attended a conference on Abraham Hicks’ law of attraction.
I put in the work to attract my tribe, and as a result, I am now proud to say that I have a beautiful portfolio of ideal clients who I am lucky to work with every day. Thus, I encourage you to listen to your intuition. Take the time to discover yourself, to curate your next steps, and to run after your dreams like there’s no tomorrow. I promise you will be happy you did.
Love & Light,
Kadija
